Why is this free when others charge?
Cloud background removers rent GPUs, so they meter you with watermarks and HD paywalls. Here the neural network runs in your own browser using WebGPU where available, so our costs do not grow with your usage.
How good is it?
Excellent for people, pets, products and everyday objects on reasonably distinct backgrounds. Stray hairs on busy backgrounds and glass are harder, as with any tool.
Can I use the results commercially?
The tool is free, but the model it uses, BRIA RMBG-1.4, is licensed for non-commercial use. For client work or product listings check BRIA’s licence first.
Which browsers work best?
Recent Chrome and Edge are fastest thanks to WebGPU. Firefox and Safari fall back to a slower but working mode.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The model file is downloaded to your browser from Hugging Face’s servers; your photos are processed locally and never sent anywhere.
